Collecting a rental car should be more than a hurried exchange of keys. Allow time to inspect the vehicle and settle practical questions before driving away. This checklist helps you prepare for car rental in Bishkek; it does not replace the terms attached to your chosen vehicle.
Before meeting the host
Open the Carpal car catalogue, choose your dates and compare suitable vehicles. Check the seating, transmission, advertised price and deposit in each listing. Ask about missing specifications before booking. If you have several suitcases, confirm luggage space separately: five seats do not necessarily mean room for five large bags.
Save the vehicle name, dates and agreed pickup location. Confirm who will hand over the keys and how to contact them if you are delayed. For an airport meeting, agree a precise meeting point. Do not assume that delivery or its cost is included.
Questions worth settling first
Confirm the deposit amount, how it is provided and how its return will be handled. Discuss mileage allowances, the fuel return rule, your intended destinations and insurance terms. Similar-looking cars may have different rental conditions.
Check which documents you need and the requirements for every intended driver. Discuss sharing the driving before collection. If you need a child seat, seasonal equipment or another extra, confirm availability, suitability and price. A missing detail in a listing is not a promise of a free service.
Inspect the car together
Walk around the car with the person handing it over. Take clear overview photographs and close-ups of existing damage. Use enough light to show marks accurately rather than relying on dark pictures or reflective angles.
- Look over the windows, mirrors, wheels and visible tyre damage.
- Check the lights, wipers, seat belts and seat adjustment.
- Inspect the cabin and boot, and confirm the supplied equipment.
- Photograph the odometer reading and fuel level.
- Ask for an explanation of unfamiliar controls or warning lights.
Agree how existing damage will be recorded and keep a copy you can access. Resolve an unexplained dashboard warning before leaving. Photographs are useful evidence of condition, but they are not a substitute for an agreed handover record.
Before departure and return
Set your mirrors and navigation before moving. For a trip outside the city, consult Kyrgyzhydromet's official forecast rather than checking only the pickup location. Keep a charging cable and save the host's contact details somewhere accessible.
Agree the return location, time and procedure in advance. Before handing the vehicle back, remove belongings, check the boot and record its condition, mileage and fuel again. If plans change, agree new arrangements instead of assuming the rental extends automatically.
